Waabishkii Animikii, Katie L Muzquiz is an Anishinaabe (White Earth) contemporary visual artist living in Detroit Lakes, MN. She graduated from White Earth Tribal and Community College where Muzquiz earned her A.A. degree with honors. Katie is now at Minnesota State University Moorhead where she plans to obtain 2 BFA's in both Art Education with an Art Therapy minor and in Studio Art with her emphasis in painting. Many times, in Katie's life her health has been unpredictable, and she has had numerous heart and lung surgeries over the years. Art has always been her creative outlet and place of healing. Her medium of choice is oil paints, and her subjects vary from colorful dreams, interpretations from nature, self-reflections, and emotions. Muzquiz wants to share her knowledge with others and introduce others to the healing aspects of Art. She has enjoyed her time volunteering teaching painting and drawing classes for youth and adults through community education. She has instructed classes for the communities of Mahnomen, Detroit Lakes, and Frazee-Perham.
